Thomas Knoll states if you are going patch ACR that you should "not" change the D30 string if patching for the 10D. He posted this advice on DPreview :

Dale,
Patched yours yet? Initial reports suggest that it works OK, but I haven't heard much from people who's opinion I'd have more faith in.
If yes, what do you think?

Because the 10D was not supported and Adobe tech people didn't think an updated version to ACR would be coming out. I requested a refund before the 30 day return date expired and removed ACR from my system. If I had know that there was a way of patching ACR I wouldn't have requested a refund. :( I have heard the patch works well but have not seen any actual comparisons posted.
10D should be here tomorrow or Wednesday.. may have to purchase ACR again. :p

Hi all
I have used hacked ACR on 2 or 3 10D RAWs and it works just fine. I am still getting the hang of ACR having used it just a few times on D30 RAWs, but the results are better than the Canon ZoomBrowser and TWAIN drivers, IMHO. When I am confident in my results, I'll post some over at http://www.pbase.com/ukexpat

I also have the modified version of ACR,
I have not noticed any differences, however, I feel somehow that the images seem different between D60 and 10D images. I suspect it is something subtle I am missing, but since I still have too much variation from shot to shot, I can't honestly say there is a difference. So far no bugs running the modification.
I really hope that Adobe puts out an official patch for the 10D, but I suspect the rumors are true that they will wait until 8.0 for that fix.

A good difference or a bad difference?

I suspect it has something to do with the color space, but not sure. My beliefs are based on something I have read indicating 10D uses Adobe RGB as default were as D60 uses sRGB, but may have no clue what I am talking about as I have not finished paying attention to the 10D manual. Especially the differences between D60 and 10D. [trivia: I have looked the 10D manual through once, but was half asleep, since most of it was D60 repeats]
In any case, I like the ACR now that works with 10D and the final products look just as good as what I was getting from the D60 (actually better, because I was not using PS7.0 and healing brush with D60 - but that is not relevant)

I'm using the modified Adobe Raw Converter for 10D files. Comparing a few files converted using the Adobe converter with the Canon converter it appears to me that the modified Adobe version does a similar job to the Canon converter. I think the color from the Adobe version is a bit better but the black seems a bit better with the Canon converter. Given that it is easier to fix black point than it is to correct color, the Adobe converter is all I will be using. Not to mention that the Adobe converter is 10 times faster and offers far better pre-conversion controls.
All this should come as no surprise. Canon is a world leader in the field of cameras and lenses while Adobe is the world leader in image manipulation software. Would you buy an Adobe camera?
(I would have attached a couple of sample images but I'm not sure how that works on this site.)
