Recently acquired this one after swearing off the Mk II a while back. It will probably face stiff competition from the Zuiko 50/1.4, SMC Takumar 55/1.8 and Tomioka 55/1.2 in my bag.

Oh my other L primes. My 24L II is by far my best performer followed by the 100L. The 85L II is a bit of hit and miss and will soon be relegated/sold once I have the either 50/2 MP or the 35/2 Zeiss.

Got to shoot with this over my weekend and I am pretty impressed with it. Didn't see much different in IQ from this lens and my the 1.4 version I used to have.

The images from this lens seem sharper than the images from the current 50mm 1.8 version. Does anyone agree?
This has been my opinion for quite some time now. It's been said before that they both have exactly the same lens design, but I suspect that more care was taken while assembling the MK I. I know I sure preferred it over my MK II.;)

I never really cared for the 1.4. Yes build was better and ftm focus was nice but I never got the wow factor like I do this one. Maybe it was just my copy though cause even my 1.8 mkii gave me more wow than the 1.4.

What was your exif for this? All my landscape/far off shots with my 50 MkI are crap... I've tried low and high apertures, but can't seem to figure it out.

Maybe its just me but the mk1 seems to do alot better at focusing than the mkii. I hated how much my mkii would hunt inside the house with light coming from the window, this one not at all. I know that everywhere it states that the mki and mkii are optically the same but i dunno, there is something special about this one.

Maybe its just me but the mk1 seems to do alot better at focusing than the mkii. I hated how much my mkii would hunt inside the house with light coming from the window, this one not at all. I know that everywhere it states that the mki and mkii are optically the same but i dunno, there is something special about this one.
I have owned both and my mk1 is certainly better, not far off my 100 f2 and the focus is spot on where as the mk11 often missed completely

I think this is one of the gems that I will never be able to let go. I was debating on getting a 35 f/2 in place of this so I could build a 35/85/135 trio but the images are just too nice to let go. So maybe. I will just skip the 85 and get a 135 to go with this gem.

My MK1 also seems to focus better than the MKII's that I have owned. It definetely nails focus much more consistently than the II's!

EXIF should be intact on those images. f/2.8 1/250 ISO100 on the first, f/5.6 1/125 ISO100 on the second.

Just joined the club by accident. Decided to pick up a used 50 1.8 on Amazon for $70 and a week later when I opened up the box I could not believe what I saw. Hello MKI.

About a month ago I got a Minty Mk1and Eos 750 for $50.Did focus test's between 1 and 2.The Mk1
definitely focuses better in low light.Also The Mk1 works well with a TC but the Mk2 will not work
with a TC even in good light.

A very nice set. Some look like very shallow DOF. In particular the closeup of the baby's face. Shallow but nice. ;)

Yes they were taken on the 40D. I seriously love this little lens. Shallow but nice is right Bruce. :lol:
