Looks like you have a nice copy of the lens Jimmy!! The vulture shot is excellent!! Priceless expression even through the netting!! Good stuff.....

I feel positive ...

Composition is clearly not good on the first Nyala one, but not much to be done if the fella insists on sitting near a fence and it doesn't matter for a learning session! The Vulture is good and can sharpen and contrast up very nicely indeed I think. Great expression you captured there. The Warthog I take or leave for same reason as the Nyala. The Eagle is nice and can PS up well too (dunno what the species is but looks like a Snake Eagle of some sort?!)

The whole practice and play side is so important. You've got some sharp, focused pictures with good DOF, so great progress. Things can improve given the A1 lenses you have, but definitely steps forward. Hope you enjoyed the ice-cream!

I see you're a lot better at web-posting now too. Lens looks good.

Never mind, lol, guess those arent web posts. Good nevertheless!

Nice. I went to the zoo a couple of weeks ago. Same lens, same vulture. Well, not the same vulture but you know what I mean.

jim, you have got some nice pics there, technically very good. May be you can do better with composition but it also needs cooperation from your subject :-)
I like the vulture shot best :-)

PS: You do have a nice lens collection ;)

Maybe you can finance him a camera safari to Africa then, Dr Einstein...

they look like pictures of animals to me with a touch of narrow DOF..

nothing stands out as really good or really bad.

The birds are rather ugly, but I guess that's not your fault.

i love the shots but just seeing the fencing dulls the effect on the picture, IMO.

speaking of safaris...african safaris are amazing! one of the most enjoyable 4 hours of my life. was only able to get out of the van once by some flamingos, but rhinos were about 8 feet away from our van. incredible! everyone should go on a safari! here are just a few shots i got (i would attach them but i dont feel like resizing them)....

My first safari was to Hluhluwe and Umfolozi in South Africa and we went in driving a tiny hired Toyota Jazz, which is about as inappropriate a car as you might imagine

It was late afternoon and then suddenly we saw a mother and calf Rhino munching at the side of the track. We stopped and watched as they came closer and closer until we knew we just had to leave in order to get to camp before dusk. I'm sure the mother could have turned the vehicle over, but just very calm.

Heart in mouth and through all my African adventures since I have never lost that same feeling. Beats L fever every time ;) and so that's were I like to spend my money.
