Not that i think i have one, but im planning on performing the following test

http://www.canon-dslr.com/Canon_Jan05/Canon_SLR_Focus_Test.htm

If i find for example that my camera is front focusing or back focusing with say both my 50 / 1.4 and the kit lens, is this something a camera repair centre is able to rectify?

Hoping my focus is okay but wont know till tonight.

If it's not focusing properly Canon or maybe an authorised repair centre have to calibrate it.

nabil I beleive you will have to get your lenses corrected for front/back focussing, not the camera (in case you find issues, i hope not :-))
I hope I am correct.

On what basis do you make your statement regarding the body not requiring any possible correction.

I think my post was not clear. I meant to say in case you find front/back focus issue, there is higher probability of problem to be more on lense rather than body itself. We see a lot of posts here with lens focussing issue but I cant remember seeing many where camera itself dosent focuses correctly.

However looking at this statement in this test
----------------------
Note the 50mm f1.4 test shown, will give some shots in focus (as well as some front and some back focussed). This causes people to think the camera is ok and they are the problem - when one shot looks sharp and the next looks blurred. In fact it's just the level of tolerance of the camera system, in that the autofocus varience per shot, is so great - and clearly looking at these images not suitable for the job.
-----------------
there is camera fault possibility too.

In any case, I hope you will be fine with your test :-)

Well, performed the focus error test incorporated into one of my previous posts and have found that i am achieving rather inconsistent results across my two lens's.

Cant really make a confirmed guess as to whether its front or backward focussed, but i found that the 50 1.4 tended to front focus along most of the results.

Went back to retail outlet where lens was purchased and compared the lens performance against another 50 1.4 and found the results comparable both from pictures i took and pictures the technical sales rep took.

In order to eliminate any doubt from my mind, i took the camera body to Canon in Burwood East. They were only to pleased to assist when i mentioned that i needed my camera back by next week at the latest (despite their technician numbers being down).

They will test and recalibrate the body for me.

Nabil-A - it's good to know we have a Canon repair facility locally in Melbourne.
I'm in Wantirna, so only 15-20 mins away from Burwood east. (I hope I never need it.) So it seems that having bought the camera from the USA they are happy to service it under warranty in Melbourne? Is that under the Mack warranty?

yup.
They only asked for my purchase receipt.

What does this really mean, that the test is not suitable for determining front / back focus on 1.4 or that the camera is not suitable for the 1.4 in providing consistent focusing?

That's really good - and I've read from some shops that Canon Australia won't warranty foreign goods......good to know they will :) Do they actually have a service desk you can rock up to or do you need to call a number first and arrange to speak with someone? (sorry for the interrogation..but if they are really import friendly, then I'll change my strategy and buy from OS.

Yes there is a service desk to the left just after you enter the front door. I just rocked up.

I think you should call and pretend you have a camera from overseas with mack and see what they say to you. It didnt sound like the run of the mill thing.

Heres the number 1800 809 714 (as printed on my repair agreement).

As I was told by Canon,

Mack warranty works this way normall.

Canon quote you repair costs, repairs undertaken, claim costs to mack, mack reimburse you for warranty repair costs. (just make sure it is a warranty item first that is being repaired - pre approval with mack).

In my case, Canon just said dont worry about mack warranty, have you got your purchase reciept.. yup ? YUP !... okay then thats fine.

Thanks very much. That's very helpful. Will definately get something with the Mack warranty then as those are soooo much cheaper than Canon Australia goods. And will be good to not have to wait for shops to ship it to and from Canon, - just pick it up myself. :) Thanks again!
(May even have enough money for some L's - maybe!)

Please dont take my word for it, check with canon first.
