Ok, Ive saved enough $$ to get a canon 20D body. But dont have enough for a lens yet. So Im just wondering what lens would you recommend I start saving for? I dont know which to go with as a first lens... It doesnt have to be canon.. I guess the cheaper the better, so I can start to play! Hehehe
Any help is much appreciated!

Check out www.bensbargains.net/index.shtml - maybe you can find a deal somewhere. There's always the Nifty-Fifty to start with. But I recommend the 100-400!

I say save for the Tamron 28-75 . . . great bang for the buck ($379 USD). . . but then again, I'm biased because I own it and it's what I use 98% of the time. If you can't afford that, how about the EF-S18-55 Kit lens . . . pretty good to play around and learn with and will not cost you much more than the 20D body . . . might also want to consider the EF 50/1.8 II, which is very sharp for a relatively cheap lens at $70 USD.

If you know that you have a certain type of photography in mind, that can greatly influence the type of lens to go after.

The cheaper the better? Then there is only one choice! 50mm 1.8. Well, maybe a used 18-55 EF-S. Don't think you will find anything worthwhile that is cheaper than those two. With either you can be taking pictures while saving for what you really want.

I think the affortable Sigma 18-125 DC makes a good starter lens. Look into Bluedog_XT's and fstopjojo's test photos. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=88304

Hi Sandi, congrat's on your new purchase and I have to agree with others, the 'nifty fifty' is a great start if your budget is very limited.

well you definately need to decide what type of photography you going to do or like. for walk around you might need something in range 24-200, so if you can get Canon 28-135 IS, or SIgma 24-70, Tamron.... will be good to start with this lense range probably abour $340-450
if you like portraits, definately great lense Canon 50 mm 1.4 apr $310-350 or cheaper version Canon 50 mm 1.8 II about $70-80
so u need to make you mind on what type of photography you would like and then do reasearch on lenses, because there are lots of Canon and Third party lenses but not all good.....

I have to go along with cfcRebel on this one. Sigma 18-125 DC makes a good starter lens, I have it and use it as my main lens
here is some reviews on it.

The majority of the photos that I have posted here lately have been with this lens

This is not a joke. I have a kit lens that I don't use. Make a decent offer and pay shipping and its yours! While I'm at it, can I interest anyone in a 75-300???
I kinda replaced them both with, er, L lenses.
