View Full Version : G2 battery & charging failure

My G2 battery died just after taking a picture. The lens won't retract. I plug in the charger and nothing happens: the charging light is not lit, and the lens doesn't retract. Switching the camera on and off has no effect. Plugging in the charger with the battery removed has no effect. I'll take camera and charger to a camera shop when I have time (I bought it from Jessops in the UK).

Anyone had this experience before?

The battery had been giving warning signs the previous day: very short life after recharging. So I can understand the battery is dud. But why no charging light? Can the charger be dud? Just occurred to me that I could test it by sticking bare wires into the charger holes and applying a voltmeter. Will do it at the weekend.

When these batteries die it's usually a fast and permanent death. You can't charge a battery that is finished. Get a new one.

So I followed teekay's advice and bought a new battery. Plugged in the charger, still no charging light, and the camera is dead.

Sorry to hear that. I guess it's possible that trying to charge a completely dud battery damaged the charger somehow, or maybe the charger has failed for an unrelated reason.

Whatever, I hope it's fixable.
