My cousin is having a baby in a couple weeks and wants me to be at the hospital taking pictures! I have never taken baby pictures with my DSLR before. Does anyone have any advice, or know of any websites I could look at? I only have the lenses below... and the flash. I don't know if I can use flash in the hospital room or would that not be a good idea? I don't have a diffuser... would I need one of those? Or should I just use my 50 1.8 and no flash? Any advice is helpful.

Thanks!

Try bouncing the flash off the ceiling or wall for a softer light or of course if the room has a big window natural light is great.

Also make sure you know the photography policy at the delivering hospital.

Both of the above points, and dont use you UWA. haha. I would use your 50mm and bounce the flash. Try to keep your iso low, but give yourself enough depth of field to work with.

I photographed all three of my grandchildren's births with a 50 mm 1.2, on a 1ds full frame body, using high iso and no flash, shooting RAW. I kept my mouth shut and just shot, sometimes even standing on a chair on the perimeter of the action. They were awesome. Once all actual delivery was over, I was able to put a flash on the camera and bounce it for the pics with the siblings, other grandparents, etc. The hospital policy stated no flash, fyi. pics turned out great.
