hi folks,
I owned a Canon 75-300 USm III and was glad to get rid of it - not anyways sharp at any length.
Has anyone here used any similar focal lenghts lenses from Sigma/Tamron etc??
I love my 300L but it is heavy and not suited for travelling/holidays.
Size and price are a concern! Will probably buy 2nd hand off Ebay.
thanks, Antaine.

70-300 APO DG Sigma is better but too new to find SH. The none Dg model is a good choice. Canon 100-300mm is a decent option but SH tends to go for around £120-140.

Ron did a test and the Tamron 70-300 LD won it. With my Tamron I find that I just have to boost saturation and sharpness and maybe alittle contrast in post processing.

I've just sold my Sigma 70-300 APO II, it's a very good lens for the money. I got a lot of good results from it and have no hesitations in recommending it. Practical Photography rated it the best in a recent review of budget zoom lenses.

Whats wrong with this EF-75-300 image? I think the 75-300 is misjudged.

I agree....I hated my 75-300. I just couldn't get decent pictures out of it. I switched to the canon 100-300 USM and couldn't be happier. I was really attracted to the FAST focus speed. This lens focus' much faster than the others in this price range (imho). Good luck with your decision.

Just a little soft is all. I owned the IS version and got many good photo's, but not many "great" photo's. Not bad for the money though. Like I tell everyone , save your money and go for the 70-200 f/4.

I bought a Tamron 70-300 LD from mikesd on this forum and so far I'm very happy with it.
Both ends seem pretty sharp to me (with some small CA in high contrast areas), its fairly small and light (compared to all the "L" stuff people rave about) and relatively quick to focus (but loud when doing so).
My only complaint is its a bit slow for evening shooting when the rabbits come out to play.
Its not L, but for the $110 investment on a "used" lens I think it was money well spent.
