I have recently upgraded from a D60 to a 20D. Now both cameras had the option to set Parameters via the custom menu, but I have never bothered to change any of them.

I am wondering if anyone has used any of the Parameters and if so, which ones do you use, for what purpose, and what do you recommend? Or is it just best to do all the adjustments within the photo editing software?

I shoot RAW only, so the parameters don't do a lot for me at the camera. However, those are saved and they give the RAW converter program a different place to start from. You can still change everything at the converter, though.

thanks for the input. I kinda suspected that.

I shoot raw (and only raw) too. So you have just confirmed what I suspected.

btw, I don't understand the need to shoot in raw+jpg - unless you are planning on printing directly or downloading the jpgs for posting on the net. But still I am surprised that this is an option.

Any new Canon owner should check this pdf out. It explains a lot about Parameters..and a lot of other things. Check out around p. 25 for a graph on the different cameras and what levels of sharpening apply to each and you'll get an idea.

Hmm, I haven't gotten to the point where I shoot raw since I haven't really shot anything yet, but all of the reviews of the Canon rave about the fact that it'll save both so someone must think it's a desirable function. Of course what the public raves about and what the cogniscenti value are two different things.
