Anyone been to Mid-Ohio and know any good locations to shoot at? Never really shot motorsports and thought I'd give it a try next Friday for practice and qualifying of the race next weekend.

Many good spots from the general admission spectator areas.

From the elevated track paddock area, 40mm.
It's worth your money to purchase a paddock pass for a Mid-Ohio event, of course.

I know this is about a week late, but for future reference: i wrote a pretty thorough guide to shooting M.O. on my half-hearted attempt at writing a blog: http://blog.cclarkphoto.com/2008/09/mid-ohio-spectators-photography-guide.html

Pretty much any of the turns. Bring your 100-400L. That's a great lens for MidOhio provided you have decent light. I've seen the official photog shooting with a 70-200 f/2.8, but he can get much closer & shoot through an opening in the fence. Pretty hard to compete with that..

Tifosi, I enjoyed reading your Mid-Ohio guide blog. I've been there many times, but I've only ever shot at the Esses, Thunder Valley, and Madness. I'll have to try some new locations at the upcoming ALMS race!

If you are shooting from spectator spots it is pretty tricky. There is a pedestrian bridge (Honda Bridge) after madness that you can get some awesome shots when you are right next to it.
There is also an announcers tower at the top of madness, if you are directly to the right of the telephone pole to the left of this tower you can shoot through the photog opening in the inside fence and get them coming over madness.
Just a couple spots that I used this previous weekend.
