View Full Version : What's on your wall?

Personally, my main living area is filled up with pics of my 2 babies. I won't post them as you've probably seen them at some point anyway!
What have you got on your walls, and (if different)what is the all-time number one shot you've taken?

Good question ...
I have few photo's on my wall because I'm lazy ... but to inpire me to stay focused on priorities I have 6 shots from Namibia, Etosha wildlife and the Skeleton Coast, two from Sri Lanka, including one of a Tea Plantation which technically is so-so but it just tickles me for some reason to see my beverage being picked and also reminds me that my work is easy compared to carrying a sack of tea leaves on my back all day in the sun. The last image is boats at the Harbour at Ko Samui, Thailand ... because I like the colour and busy-ness of the scene and that in such places, you either get on the boat or you don't and, if you do, who knows if you'll get across the water or sink. I like that whole life and death thing ... ;)
I do have two large frames empty with room for 6 more but can't be bothered printing and filling them. My photo printer has only been used 8 times   so cost me about £15 per print!! I dunno why I take photo's actually as I keep very few. I'm in process of sorting out a photoblog and will get around to uploading some at some point ... or not
As to all time number one shot ... hmm, I dunno if I think like that, because I've never actually thought about it. Emotionally, it's probably an image I took with my ex Kodak DC240 3x optical zoom with a massive 2MP ( the bee's knee's P&S in 1998 ). Amazing how such noise was acceptable, but I thought it was a great camera and I still have it and use it now and again!!
It shows the gate to the Skeleton Coast, which is along the Atlantic Coast of Namibia and a very dangerous place to be on land or at sea. The gate shows a huge skull and crossbones and then in the distance seemingly endless sand. There is really nothing beyond the road sign ... but the place is really alive! No technical critique required ;) I have only so much interest in the whole sharpness, quality, etc debate as for most of us the images that touch us and mean something don't need to be perfect.
No road other than a sand road, unknown weather conditions, dunno if there is enough fuel to get through, even though we had a large spare can full, do we have enough weater and supplies, how long will the trip take, what happens if we break down, will we get stuck in sand, can the vehicle cope, etc. It reminds me of life as life experienced in the moment, rather than life as living death ... all that attachment to things and ego and nonesense like that.
As it happens, the one place that we were promised would have some fuel for a mid way top up, a research station, was closed  and we eventually JUST made it to the town at the other side ... about as low on fuel as it gets without stopping.
So, if anyone forgets what P&S quality looked like in 1998 check out the Kodak DC240 3x optical zoom with a massive 2MP below:

I have several photos and paintings adorning my walls. Only one of the photos is from my own camera, though. I had this one, which I've posted here before, printed as an 8x12:

I have about a half dozen more than I've had printed and plan to matte and frame. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Not sure it's my all time favorite, but I printed it and put it on the wall to see how it fit.

Except for a couple of "wal-mart" portraits (ugh...don't ask) of my daughter, every pic on my walls is one of mine. All were from a 17 day trip a couple of buddies and I took out west back in '99. My all time favorite shot is a 3 foot long Panoramic (4 8x10's side by side then trimmed) from the top of Tunnel Mountain in Banff, Alberta that I had put together from that trip.
Sorry, no diplay here....I've tried several times to get it together in photoshop, but nothing I do with it seems to do it justice.

I'v seen this picture on webshots. Your version is better I think with the snow. Where is that?

I've seen similar pictures, too. This is probably one of the most photographed old cars around. It's in Bodie, a ghost town in the high Eastern Sierras.

The wife is a landscape painter so we have oils on the walls. Photos are in frames on cabinets and bookcases around the house and are mostly children (2 + spouses) and grandchildren (5 + 1 due Aug 18).

Heh I've still got an olympus 1.3mp from 1998 which was my first digital and what brought me into the photography world.
It IS amazing how much noise you could get away with back then! My pics from then compared with those of my 300d are, well... how to emphasise really awful... and I though they were fantastic at the time!
This is my favorite picture so far.......I think the frame is perfect for it.
and well deserving of your wall too! I love baby shots. So innocent, and so little time before they go from gurgling and cooing to asking you for the contents of your wallet :D
Thanks for sharing!

Its already couple years old, so I probably should find something else to replace, but at the moment this image.
http://www.ylitalot.net/photos/photos/2003Matka/2819_1.jpg
It has been printed to 75x50cm paper (little bit less than 30x20 inches) and since its dimensions are 4:3, it has about 4cm white on top and bottom.

Great idea for a thread.
I have four photos blown up to 24x36 in hanging on my walls. They are:

Other than the large photos I have a huge wall of photos in my bedroom. The photos in my room are letter sized and printed on my home printer. I have them framed in cheap Wallmart document frames, but they actually look nice because I have them organized in a nice square grid. It took me an entire afternoon with a level to hang those frames straight. I am constantly changing the photos in my room. When friends come over they always check for updates.

Wow, how'd you figure that out? You're definatly right. You must have cheated and looked at my webpage. I flew Dorniers for almost five years. I have about 3500 Dornier hours logged. I loved that plane.

In my living area I have four framed Mardis Gras prints that everyone comments on.... they are unusual and very vivid. Down my long hallway are favorite family photos.... 5x7 to 11x14. My front entry has more favorite photos dating back to 1923.

Every time I go out, I come home and try to print at least one 8X10 or 5X7 from the days' shooting. I then suck it up and drop $12.93 for a double-matted frame at Wal-Mart and hand it to my wife.
One of these days, all of these pictures will actually be hanging in our dining room...

Where was this taken? It looks like an inversion in the Grand Canyon. Wherever it is, its a great pic!
This is currently on my office wall, but I just sent a few more off for processing that I will be adding soon.

Well, I one set of abstract smoke prints, that I don't have good pictures of available here at the office. Most of the ohter photography is studio portraits of my daughter, taken by someone else, before I really got into photography. I have a pen and ink drawing that I don't ahve a photo of, and I also have the drawing below (Yah, I know it's a photo forum, but I really like this drawing and spent 5wks on it so I want to share). I did this as my final project for Drawing III in college. Orange pieces, variosu bits of peel, etc. 18x24in, colored pencil on illustration board. I didn't want to risk damaging it by taking it out of the frame, so there's a small bit of glare from the glass (though I was able to eliminate msot of it). Also, some of the more subtle details throughout the drawing got lost in resizing the photo.

I took these pictures in Banff about a year ago and even though they aren't 'professional', they were pretty close for me. :o) I had them made into 5x7's and I hung them up in my livingroom.

We are in the middle of moving house, so I don't have anything on my walls because we have no house yet! But this is one of the ones I had up in the foyer of our last house. The left side is my eldest son, the right side my youngest.

Re: tommykjensen,
That hawk will look great on your wall. I'd really like to get some bird of prey shots, but I'm just waiting on a new zoom lens. Got a few buzzards living around here which I could get some in-flight shots of.
Nice work!

Living in a motorhome, there isn't a lot of wall space for hanging pictures. What pictures we do have are family members. For example, every year I make a collage for each of our twin grand-daughters. For the collage, I use the cutest photos of them we've taken during the previous year, then print an 8.5 x 11, frame it and mount it on our "living room" wall.
