I've been impressed with the infrared pictures I've seen since I starting reading this board. I'm wondering whether the time of day affects infrared pictures at all. In other words can you take pictures in the dark?
Simon.

The answer is yes, but I have not taken any IR photos in the dark (I suspect that the G1's limit of f2.2 and 8 seconds may be the problem). But late afternoon photos seem to have much lower contrast than photos taken at noon.
Diane Fields may have some interesting experiences on this, as she has done a lot of IR with a G1 and Hoya R72.

I believe PHilip is right--I believe this is hindered by the G1's limits. My understanding is that the best IR photos are taken between 12 and 4--strong sunlight. However, I'm intrigued by shadows and light, so I often try at other times. I have taken some interior IR shots as experiments but they haven't worked out well.
