Wrong section, should be in rumors section. And the XSi was discontinued a few weeks ago. Old news

Canon always introduces a new model before they discontinue the current one. Where is the 60D?

The XSi was discontinued as well? Is the XSi a worth upgrade from the XTi? I might be able to find some deals if they are discontinuing it.

So glad my XTi isn't extinct yet. I want to be able to sell it before it's resell value plummets. I'm hoping to get just a bit under retail to upgrade to the XSi.

Your XTi became extinct around the time the dinosaurs did.

Makes sense - they have to stop production of one model to tool up and start production of the next model. I suspect that there are a good number of 50D bodies in the retail chain that have yet to be sold. Price is pretty good right now ($1099 at B&H).
I believe that the 50D replacement (the real 50D replacement) will be out this fall. The XSi ought to be history - that price range is saturated with bodies.

The XSi has been history for a few months now.

Canon always brings out the replacement before discontinueing the current model. The replacement for the 50D has been out for 8 months.

Sounds like a good time to sell high. I probably should go for just the xs, as it's performance is probably well above my current XTi.

The XS is about the same as the XTi, except for live view. You can get a leftover XSi for about the same price or lower price than the XS and get live view, high tone priority, 12 megapixels, and spot metering that the XTi doesn't have.

Maybe I'll just upgrade my 20D for now. The 30D is suppose to offer a larger display, that would be nice.

The 30D is just a 20D with a bigger screen and some extra features. Try a 40D. Much better camera.
The 40D and XSi are pretty closely related.

The XSi is still available at a few retailers and is shown on the Canon USA web site, but is generally sold out. As it should be - there's 3 other Rebels on the market right now anyway.
Canon does NOT always bring replacements before discontinuing the current mode. There may be overlap in the retail supply chain, or there may not. But they will not manufacture a replacement simultaneously with it's predecessor unless they are meant to share the market simultaneously.
The 1D3 dried up at nearly every retailer before the 1D4 hit the market. Precious few 10D bodies were around when the 20D came out. Sometimes, there's a little overlap, especially if sales fall below expectations for quite some time, but that doesn't mean that production continues on both. I seriously doubt that Canon had an 8-10 month supply of 50D's in the warehouse when they started producing the 7D.
The 7D is not a replacement for the 50D - Canon produced both at the same time for several months. They are sold at different price points and for different markets.
I long for September when Canon introduces the next xxD body so that this rumor can be put to rest and a new rumor started.

Personally, I'd shoot for the 20D or 30D - The interface is much better and it feels much better in the hand. A definate step up IMHO.
40D's another option, but more $$.

Are you going to guarantee that date as when the 60D is coming out? As I recall, the 60D was coming out last fall, in February, in April. Still no 60D.

Quick check for used prices on a photography forum or two:
XTi - $250 range
20D - $200 or so
30D - $350 range
40D - $600 range
These are for sale by owner - not from a retailer.

That's the starting day of Photokina 2010. Canon likely will announce in the preceding days. It may or may not be called a 60D, but it will be marketed and sold at a price point between the 7D and T2i, just like the current 50D.

I have the 20D, but use the XTi more as it seems to give much nicer shots. So maybe I'll look at the 30D and the XS.

Seems like the 50D was released a short time ago. Is this the fastest a Canon body has benn discontinued? On the other hand, it seems like the 40D was on the market forever.

50D is almost 2 years old.. 40D was discontinued around 1 year ago, also at the age of 2 years, so its pretty much the same...

CG is correct. The XS if anything is a downgrade from the XTi. It's slower (1.5fps in RAW), less AF points (7), it's really a crippled down version of the XSi. I would not sell the XTi to get a XSi, both cameras are discontinued so what's the point? If you want liveview, go straight for a 40D which is a worthy upgrade.
I sold my XTi body locally for $300 earlier this year. I was lucky to get that, lots of lowball offers! Kinda miss it, it was a good camera.

Well I'll see what the release as a replacement for the XSi first before I consider the xxD body. I've heard selling equipment on the forum gets you low ball money that Craigslist is a better route.

Oddly, Canon USA still shows the XS and XSi along with the T1i and T2i on their web site as current models. That doesn't mean that they're still producing them - that merely means that there are still bodies in the retail stream.

There's nothing on Canon's website that says models they show on their website are "current" models. They keep some older models on there to give buyers an easy reference for helping resellers get rid of old stock.
Do you really think they are still producing the 1D3 that is on canoneos.com? No, that would be silly.

They're there because they're available at retailers. Doesn't mean they're still in production, but it does mean that Canon is aware of some bodies in the retail stream. For example, the XSi is still available new in kit form or body only at 42nd street photo. And the XS is available at 42nd Street, J&R Photo, and Newegg.com. All reputable dealers.
When the bodies become largely unavailable at retail outlets, Canon will remove them from their web site. The 1D3 maybe shouldn't be there since it doesn't appear to be available anywhere that I looked. Or, maybe I didn't look in the right places.
If the bodies listed aren't currently available, then why would Canon waste space advertizing them on their web site?

Ha um no the whole Rebel line up goes in numerical order. 350d,400d,450d,500d,550d
In other countries they get numerical names, while in the states we have XS,XTI,XSI, etc.. Same camera, different name

With the xsi discontinued, why is it still so close in price to the t1i? I have been looking at used or refurbished xsi and t1i at adorama and b&H, and the price diff is about 50 bucks...when will we see the xsi drop some more?
