View Full Version : Problems with Canon A80

I recently took my family to Disneyland and California Adventure. During one of water rides, I got some water into my A80. With just a few days out of warranty, the flash isn't working and images get loaded either upside down or side ways. Otherwise, it's still working. What are the best options for the two existing problems? Is sending it to the Canon repair shop somewhere in California the only solution?

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions or solutions.

Hi.

This sounds almost identical to the problem I had with my A80. My wife took it to the local zoo in the rain. For a few days the images in the LCD were upside down, and the flash stopped operating.

After a week or two, the *only* problem was that the flash didn't work. I priced a replacement flash unit from cannon - which was approx $AU 100.00. Unfortunately the local cannon authorised repairer charges $AU 200.00 to give you a quote on repairs. I can get a new A85 for under $AU 300.00.

I decided to attempt to clean the flash circuit board using CO contact cleaner as there was a visible layer of 'gunk' on it. Not only did it not fix the flash, but now there are spots on the lens.

Looks like I'm buying that A85 ...

If it were my camera, I would probably try to put it on top of my water heater overnight and maybe take some quality lens paper to its lens.

Thank you both for responding to my post.

Upon talking to my local authorized shop, looks like it ain't worth paying so much or the trouble for fixing it. Since the only thing that isn't working is the flash, I think I'll continue to use it until I get a Canon 20D and give A80 to my 8 year old boy.

So, that's that with A80. Now I gotta deal with the water (or is it heat?) related problem with my Canon digital camcorder, Optura Xi. Thankfully, it's still working. It's just that red arrow keep flashing on me, meaning that I should send it in for repair.
