I just got the Canon G6 and was just experimenting it. I don't like the Assist Beam since it is very bright, and turned it off. However, when i was taking pictures inside my apartment, (relatively dark), when i semi press the release button, the light is still ON? What's going on here?

Also, i was sitting down, and took a picture of my dress, but because the "assist beam" light was so bright, the picture came out so white that you can't really see anything about my dress. I took the same picture using my old Olypus C 4000, it wasn't a problem, the dress was fine on the picture.

Could someone please help me? I am not very happy about the G6 right now since i don't think it's a big improvement over my Olympus C4000, and camera is so bulky....

Thanks!

It shouldn't have effected your exposure anyways. It shuts off when you take the picture. Either the flash fired and was too close or another setting was wrong which caused the overexposure.

If your dress is a very light color especially white it is very difficult for the meter to meter properly. You might have to set camera to manual exposure to correct the problem.
