I work for a blasting company. we blast for quarries and strip mines and such. here is a sequence of shots I took a while back of a blast.

This was about 50,000 pounds of explosives, and I was about 2,000 feet away.

That 2nd (B+W) shot looks straight out of a WW2 movie. I hope you were wearing ear protection......and had a really long zoom!
It's hard to have a real sense of scale of the first one - it must have been a huge blast, but because of the distance away it doesn't look or feel that big. But given how small the road (I think it's a road....) looks.......it a lot of earth to move!

Agreed on both counts. Thanks for both the close up & the distance one, only try not to get too close....

This is why I recommend a UV / Skylight filter...

Actually, 2-Inch bulletproof filter ought to do the trick here.

That is a road in pic one. The 2nd pic was shot with a 90mm lens. I did dodge a few pebbles falling around me in the second shot, nothing major.
