I have seen two types of grip for the 50D, one with a AF/On button and one without (Just the two blue buttons), as I use the AF/On button for focus on my 50D can anyone tell me the model number or make of the grip with the AF/On button.

I ask this because I assume the grip's will have different number's..

Thank's.;)

No, they didn't. I just bought a new one from Adorama and it only has the two buttons on the back.

I use one of the clone grip, but I also have swapped the AF-On and * functions. Holdover from the 20D days, but I prefer the location of the * over the Af-On button anyway.

I just gt the Canon grip for my 50D from B&H (free shipping) and so far it seems very well built.

The grips for the Canon 50D/40D/etc do not have an AF-ON button, because I am assuming that Canon didn't build in the electrical interfaces in the battery compartment to control a 3rd button. Never the less that doesn't mean you still can't focus using the battery grip. You have to do as Guapo stated,

1. Enable the AF-ON button
2. Enable the CF to switch AF-ON with the "*" button

Now to AF, simply use the "*" button on both your camera and grips. I even do this with my 5D MKII as well as the 5D MKII supports the AF-ON button on both camera and grip. I do not like that Canon made the AF-ON button so little compared to the other buttons. If anything, I would have made it larger than the other buttons. So, it's easier for me to use the "*" button over the AF-On button because it is larger and easier to reach.

I would like to apologize about my post earlier, I was wrong, for some reason I was thinking the * button as the af on button... Durp

That's ok.;)

This is why I asked the Q::D
Anyone know the make or is it a true canon grip?

The BG-E2 is the old model. The new model is the BG-E2N which "improves upon the BG-E2 grip by adding water-resistant, and dirt-resistant seals for greater durability and to match the water resistant capability of the EOS 40D camera body."

Take Care,
