Hi yall:I am the worlds worst on a computer but I love photography and have recently gone digital.I have a 20D and I just got PSE 3.0 because I thought it could everything that I would need and way more.I don't have a clue how to open RAWS.I took the images as RAW+jpeg on the camera but when I put them in camera I don't know what to do to get them as RAW's? Help please like I said I suck on a computer so you have to be extremely clear in a simple way for me to understand.Thanks.

Cool name ... ;) ... You have to have the RAW plug in available for PSE if I'm not mistaken. Did you install the Canon Software that came with your 20D? The ZoomBrowser EX application needs to be setup with the camera so you can acquire the images if you don't have a CF card reader. All you do then is once you've got the CR2 (Canon RAW) image is that select it then right click and choose Process RAW image.

I thought you need the DPP to process RAW for CR2???

Hey yall:my camera is about six months old it came with DPP and some other stuff including PSE2.0.I installed all that stuff and I already had photshop 7.0.I heard that elements 3.0 could do RAWS so I figured that if I had only one thing to learn I would be better off. When I put images into my computer they come up as jpegs even though I shot them as raw+jpeg.Help please.

First if you don't already own one, get your elf a CF reader they'recheap about $10. Open up Digital Photo Professional (DPP) that came with the Camera. Insert CF card into CF reader. When the pop up window comes up asking how you want to open the files choose the folder then click the pen button. Open the folder in that window and you'll see files with extention cr2, these are your RAW files (pictures) select them by clicking on the top most one and then scroll down to the last one hold dow the shift key and click on the last cr2 file. all the cr2 fle will be highlighted. Hold down the CTRL key and press the C key thiswill copythe select files. Open my computer and open C drive and then make a folder (go to FILE/NEW/FOLDER) Give this folder a distinct name then open the folder hold down th CTRL key and press Vkey this will paste the copyfile to the new Folder. Go back to DPP and navigate & select the new folder. You will see the thumbnails of the files.

If you didn't update your PSE 3 then go to this site to update your PSE. The update should let you process your RAW files in PSE:

That's good advice. At that site you'll be able to see what your camera needs in the way of a RAW plugin AND what RAW plugins work with what Photoshop versions. Be aware that Canon has 2 different CR2 file formats so take Adobe's advice for which CAMERA requires what plugin.
As far as the DPP goes, it will convert your RAW images but you don't need to use it. You'll hear various opinions that such and such RAW converter is better than the other one, but that's largely a matter of personal opinion. There is also the option of Adobe DNG -- their hope for a universal RAW standard. You get it free also.
As far as PSE3 goes, it is the value of a lifetime. It doesn't do all that CS2 does, but it does lots and you can't beat the price.
