Just wanted to know how many of you click halfway on the shutter to focus on whatever your focusing on and then recompose the shot. Or do you guy just focus and take a big wide enough photo to just crop later on.
thanks.

I use the AF point closest to the subject. I don't focus recompose.

most of the time i focus/recompose.
if i have plenty of time and my subject is not moving, i'll select a different focus point instead.
if there's no time, i just center focus the subject, shoot, and i'll crop it later.
so... all of the above :)

It really depends on what you are shooting. I can focus and recompose if the shot allows it, but I'm also in the habit of selecting a focus point if I'm shooting with a wide aperture. And sometimes, <gasp>, I'll even dash off a shot with center point focus and not recomposing! and sometimes, I'll even dash off a shot with the camera in landscape orientation even if I'll need to crop it into portrait orientation, just to get the quick shot! Not the way to get a large print, though:)!

the only reason i ask is because i usually just keep it at center focusing i dont know im in a habit thinking its just the sharpest point.

One of the strengths of the 7D is supposed to be the accuracy of its focusing system on the outer points. Use them.

There was a focus-recompose poll done within the past half year or so. Majority engaged in the practice, if I recall correctly.
[edit] found it...

I select my focus point most of the time. Using the joystick to select makes it plenty fast and dead easy.

thanks for the replies guys. Ill definently try to get used to just adjust the AF point. Im just so used to learning using the center point to get the sharpest photo. I guess ill just have to trust my 7D more which i love very much =)

I always focus/recompose unless I'm in AI Servo.
