Went to the Greek Festival in Santa Barbara this past weekend. Took some pics when the dancing started.

Had some trouble with this shot because the guys are wearing black shirts and the background is dark. I lamely tried to lighten the thing using photoshop brightness/contrast. Any suggestions on how to deal with a live action shot when the subjects are dark against a dark background?

Spent some time messing with the cropping on this one, but am not sure I got it right. I took out much of the person on the left, because it seemed distracting, yet there has to be enough of the person to indicate this is actually a dance - know what I mean?
A film instructor said something about sticking the nose in the middle of the frame on a profile. Maybe I should pursue that more. Also, do you place the subject's eyes on the grid in the rule of thirds? The main point of interest for me is the painted blue flag. Is there anything you would do in Photoshop to improve this shot?
I'm a newbie photographer so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
