Ok, so I was noticing some fuzzy spots on my images, and subsequently modified my lens cap to make it into a digital pinhole camera. The resulting images revealed a plethora of dust on my sensor. I tried to locate my instruction manual, but I believe my wife "cleaned" it (i.e. - she threw it away). I remember reading in the manual that there is a function on the camera which cleans the sensor (by heating it?) but that it was a risky proposition. Should I use this method, or just shoot a blast of compressed air in their? Or is there another, safer, more effective method?

On the menu there is a sensor clean function. It "opens" the mirror so that you can clean the sensor. I use a rubber bulb to blow air on it and remove the dust. DON'T use compressed air!!!

try cleaning with a Rocket rubber bulb blower first. Then check it out and see if you need to go further..

hello everyone....searched on info on sensor cleaning and came across this thread. after reading all the info on the Copper Hill site, i chose to make my purchase. the price was minimal compared to: the price of the camera, and the unwillingness to part with my camera for 6wks (sending away for cleaning.)
thanks to those who wrote recommendations for this method. looks like EXACTLY what i've been needing!
