Ok, so I'm having trouble manually selecting the AF point on my 300D. I've read the manual and it said to press the viewfinder button located next to the one that looks like an astirisk, and then rotate the pin wheel thing. It said that this should be able to change the AF point, but It just does nothing for me... Is there something I'm doing wrong? :o

Thanks

Hit that button, the one with the dots, then look at the LCD. It should change to have the AF point layout on it. If it doesn't, then the button might be faulty. If it does, turn the dial and watch what it does there and/or in the viewfinder. Select the left (say) focus point. Hit the button or maybe the shutter button to save the setting. Look thru the viewfinder and try to focus. Which point lights up?

Hmm... I think It might be faulty... When I hit that button the LCD still stays blank. (it is the button with the viewfinder on the top and + magnifying glass on bottom right?) Knowing my skills im probbly hitting the wrong button :/

You look in the viewfinder, not the LCD.

What mode are you in at the time? It won't change if you are using it in full auto green mode, or any of the auto modes. Change to P and try it there.

There are two buttons by your thumb when the camera is held in your hand. You select the one with the (magnifying glass with the " + " "Plus" sign)

I shoot in the "creative" zone, usually Apature priority, or full manual. Let me try it out one more time, I'll set up my tripod and try it in bright light. I've been testing it in my room, which is [I]kind[I] of dim...

Still nothing. Should I take it to a camera shop? I think the only thing we have around here is a Ritz Camera...

Yeah take it to the shop and let them have a go. It'll be the quickest and easiest way to work it out.

It should work in P, Tv, Av and M modes, but not the others.
I can't think of any other setting that would disable it.

Ok kool, If they determine that the button is faulty, I could just send it to Canon right? Its still covered, since I only got it a month ago... Wish they could give me a black 300D tho, haha >.<

Ya, that's what I thought... Is there anything that is supposed to happen that would confirm the ajustment of the AF point? Right now I press the shutter button half-way and a red dot shines on a point. Then I let got of the shutter button, press the AF ajust button, and turn the pinwheel, but in my case nothing happens. Am I doing the process wrong?

Custom functions, im sure there is a feature there that allows you to customise how to choose your AF point...... maybe something here.

Also check your lens is in AF mode not Manual focus..... if its in mf it will still work but you will have to depress the asterix or shutterbutton while manually focusing until red cube lights up. Actually it should still work whether your i af or mf mode.. i have a feeling its your custom function set up.

Ya, It's in AF, but where would I find the custom function set up? I've looked through the menu and haven't found one... (Im still a noob, so I don't know everything about it :/ )

Ohh k, with the hacks... Yes I believe that you could probbly change it with that, but mine isn't hacked right now... and I don't really know when I'll have time to do it. But thanks for the suggestion! :)
