I loaned my trusty S230 to my college student son for a trip to Europe and he came back and told me there was a small problem with the lens cap not always closing. "No big deal", he said, "just tap on the camera a couple of times and they will usually snap closed!". "Grrrrr", I said.

Using a can of camera dust blowing gas, I thought maybe there was some dust or dirt that was holding the little leaves open, but gentle blowing did not help. Upon closer examination of the lens cap (the silver cover around the inside barrel) it appears that the cap has been distorted inward in a spot (looks like pretty thin metal) and could possibly be interfering with the lens cap leaves mechanism. If I could get this cap off, perhaps I could straighten it out, or in the worst case, buy a new cap.

I found an illustrated parts list at http://www.micro-tools.com/pdf/Canon/POWER%20SHOT%20S230%20-%20IXUS%20V3.PDF so I know the part number. However, I don't know how to get the cap off. Does it unscrew, is it glued on, etc?

Looking through this forum I see several posts looking for repair manuals and I spent a considerable amount of time looking online as well with no luck.

Does anyone know how to get this little thin metal part off?

Thanks!
