Being used to results with the 20D & 1DMk2 combined with a 100-400mmL lens I find the S2 IS' zoom to be very good. Thought you may like to see a sample especially if you're considering a purchase in the near future.

Pretty much straight out the camera, all I've done is adjusted the levels a bit.

Wow, I am still camera shopping for my first digicam for outdoor mainly; birding, & wildlife. This may be a winner.

I was thinking about an S2IS as a pocket camera (well, not really "pocketable" but still much lighter that anything else I have except the Ixus that does have some limits). How do you feel about it ? The zoom seems good.

The S2 still amazes me in its quality. I bought it for light carry round and the results are excellent. I bought the 70-300 DO last week, as a lightweight when not wanting to carry the 100-400 L or/and 70-200 L, and from a trip on Friday the S2 outshone it, OK it is most likely me with the DO, but from the first results it does not compare to L's. Back to the S2, I would highly recommend it, it seems to do everthing well, really well.

The zoom as seen here is really good. Overall I find the camera produces excellent results, the images can appear a little over sharpened sometimes but this can be toned down within the custom settings. My main gripe is that the viewfinder & main lcd screen can be difficult to view in bright weather & near impossible if wearing sunglasses.
Now when I'm on my way out for a walk or whatever, I find myself reaching for the S2 rather than my 1DMk2!
Oh yeah the movie mode is a worthwhile mention, it produces great quality movies, another valid reason why it would make a good all round holiday camera.
I recently took it with me on a short break to Brighton & Dorset, I have posted some photos from then so please feel free to take a look, it's mostly family snaps but you can still get an idea of the quality of images that come out the S2....

I think I'm sold. Going to take a look today to see if there is one available and how much is here in Italy. Thanks, everybody.
