I finally got my a couple of in-flight hover fly pics. Although I would like to see them sharper, I thought I would share with you anyway. It's not easy to get these shots. Both are uncropped. I spent almost two hours trying........ Hope you like!

Unbelievable, I know how hard all these little critters are to catch in mid-flight. One of the best I've seen.

Remember, no time is subtracted from our lives when we are taking photos or fishing.

That second photo is absolutely awesome. There are a heap of these in the garden at the moment and I have trouble keeping an eye on them, let alone getting a photo. You must have jedi reflexes ??

Thanks RockOne. These guys are pretty fast, but sometimes they just stay hover in the middle of the air and that's the best opportunity to shot. The hardest thing is to locate them in the viewfinder:confused:  . Thanks again!

How do you do something like this? What equipment do you need? I just bought my first DSLR a few hours ago (350D) so I'm a newb. Do you take these with a regular lens? Telephoto? Macro? High shutter speed? Low? Thanks!

Awesome pics!

Nice job Leo, I have yet to capture a Bee, Hoverfly, Hummingbird, or even a Bird in flight, so to me, these are awesome. ;) :D

Nice job! The sharpness is perfect. I wonder how fast the shutter speed would have to be able to see the wings. keep up the good work.

I too wish to see a little motion blur caused by the wings. Unfortunately, I didn't have a second chance:confused:

Thanks for your kind comments!

Thanks Ron. I think you should train one of your chipmunks to hold one in the air for you...;) ;) ;) I always love to see your chipmunk studio shots.

Thanks again!
