Just received my 10d and am very disappointed in the results. Only about 5% of my autofocus shots are actually in focus. Could it be my Tamron SP AF24-135mm F/3.5-5.6 AD lens or is it the camera?
Images are soft and out of focus. I can manually focus for better results - autofocus it off indoors and out.
Please check the examples on the site listed below and let me know your experienced opinion. I have no other lens at the moment to compare by, but my minolta S404 4MP outperforms my new 10D as shown in the cat photos. I never had this problem with my old Minolta 35MM autofocus gear.

The problem appears to be my Tamron SP 24-135 lens. I borrowed a friend's Canon 28-70 lens and had absolutely no problem at all with the auto focus on my 10D. I'm replacing the Tamron with a Canon 28-135 IS - I'll post my findings when it arrives.

Received my Canon 28-135 IS lens today and initial testing confirms that the Tamron SP 24-135 lens was my problem. The Canon auto focuses properly where the Tamron would not. Either the Tamron was defective, or it is not compatible with the 10D.

Turns out several Tamron lenses are not fully compatible with the 10D. Here is a link to the Japanese Tamron site with info.

Well that confirms one of the two reasons why I gave up on my Tamron 28-80 lens. The page references indicates that I should only use it in manual focus mode.
That and the distortions not present in the Canon 28-135 lens.

Thanks for the link.

Just recieved my 10D on Friday 4/25/03. went to the Zoo here in NC and spent about 3 hours taking bird photos in the avairy. Got home and about 90% of my photos were very soft. Outside photos of the Polar Bears and Sea Lions were fine, discovered that when using the Sigma 28-300 asp lense you must use an F-stop of F8 or higher to get good photos. I thought my 10d was defective. I'm going to rent a Canon lense from the local camera shop here and see if I get the same rusults. I have seen that other people with Tamron lenses are having the same issue.
