Hi,

Utter newbie here. I have installed EE and am capable of accessing the admin section. I dont at all seem to be able to even show 1 picture in my gallery. Uploads are uploading to the UPLOAD folder. But nothing is shown in the actual gallery, very frustrating, I dont care about all the nice goodies, just the one picture. Can anybody tell me what is going on ? Latest version 204 installed.

I made an exhibition, it shows at least one file to be added, but nothing in the gallery.

Next to this my ftp server does not reply to testing; I have not yet installed a thumbnail program or made users or groups.

Any assistance out there? Is there a manual ?

Dolhijn,

I don't know of an EE manual I'm afraid, and set up can be a bit of a pain, but EE does work: there are enough successful galleries around to prove that, so stick with it. It's worth it.

The clue to your problem is probably in your penultimate paragraph: "my ftp server does not reply to testing". One thing I have learned in setting up the EE installations I've used over the years is that it is important to run all the built in tests and perform all the set up before you try to upload a photo. The built in tests are comprehensive, but are scattered over quite a few areas...

So, here's a list of things to try and check on the admin menu:

Under global settings, have you specified the gallery URL correctly?

Under FTP settings, get the servers working properly. Click the "Test now", "List structure" and "Find EE root" links. Look in the results. Anything in red needs fixing.

Under server tools, check that you have at least one of Imagemagick, NetPBM and GD2 installed and functional. Check the EXIF and IPTC modules whilst you're there.

Check your paths

Check your resize methods for both main images and thumbs/microthumbs.

Finally, check that the exhibition to which your loading your image is visible to the public. Go to Edit exhibition, scroll down to the bottom and check that public is selected in "Allowed for users".

As I said, set up can be a pain, but once you've done it EE works like a dream. Good luck!

Hi,

A bit late but you might find the attached useful. It is the instructions I give my client's after I install EE for them.
