The tripod is very good indeed 10/10. I thought about the ballhead but didn't see any advantage over the Manfrotto 488 RC2 I bought ... and it also cost more money. The ballhead uses a Feisol variation on the RC2 plate, which is Ok if you buy enough Feisol plates to start with and don't want to use any other brands that you already have. Apparently, existing plates can be drilled to fit the Feisol, so maybe it's no big deal. The ballhead is also only CF coated rather than a full CF design, so I don't really see much advantage weight wise. For me, the Manfrotto is proven and great value so why risk a first generation Feisol ballhead that has still to be proven 'in action'? However, if you want to buy everything in one go then I'm sure you'll be happy with the tripod and ballhead combo ... just remember to get sufficient plates.

I have the Feisol monopod, ball-head and plate on the way. Should be here within the next few days. I'll post my impressions in the forum. My reason for choosing the Feisol head was partly convenience. The shipping on a second order for a cheaper Manfrotto head would have made up for the price difference. But I was also impressed by the look of the head. I like a good looking head ;)

My Feisol gear arrived this morning. I haven't had a chance to do anything serious with it yet (at this time of the year I leave for work in the dark and it's dark soon after I get home). But just some quick words in case you're in a hurry to order: the ball head is nicely engineered. The locking knob and friction-adjust knobs only need be turned slightly (about half a turn) to cover their range. The quick release system works well. Those with a lever to tighten the "shoe" around the plate would no doubt be a bit faster, but the knob system is fine. You don't need to turn it much to lock the plate in solidly. I'm very pleased with what I bought and it looks and feels like quality, although not having used any other system I can't say whether it's as good or better.

Oh - and the monopod is great. Not at all wobbly. I'll post more detailed impressions within a week.

I have had my feisol CT-3301 for 5 days now and I am very pleased with it. On Condyk's recommendation I am also using the manfrotto 488-RC2 head and the combination is a good one.

Here's a shot taken at the weekend with my ef70-300 at 300mm on my 20D. The lens is not the best but I think the results are good for what it is. The 3 section tripod has more than enough height for me and I'm 6' 3".

The second shot is a 100% crop of the original.

Glad it's doing the business for you Martin. I really love the lack of weight. Means I can take it to places I would normally be way to lazy to even think about ;)
