Hi all, im going to be heading to the UK and Europe (from NZ) in about 6 weeks and was looking to get a camera/notebook back pack for day trips and as a cary on bag, also im interested to hear what lenses you would all recomend taking.

Gear so far, EOS 500d, 28-80mm, 55-250mm is, 50mmf1.8 10-22mm, would it be worth taking a tripod
I also currently only have one battery, $70NZ for a second battery or $170NZ for a battery grip.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Jason

When i was in europe, i only took 17-40 and 5d2 with me. It works most of the time. But sometimes, i feel i need longer range to take an interesting photos. So if i will go to europe again, I'll bring 2 5d2s and 17-40 and 70-200. Small prime for lowlight is ok too. Be sure to pack light, i read about it and did not really care, and boy it was painful :D

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Your lens lineup looks pretty much spot on. Your 10-22mm lens will probably be the one you'll use the most as there are many great shots to be had around Europe with such a wide lens.

I took my tripod, but for most of our trip we traveled by car so I didn't have to carry it with me all the time. During the days I mostly left the tripod behind in our hotel or car. I used it early mornings or at sundown when I had time on my own (not holding up our group).
If I had to rely on public transportation, trains or whatever, I don't think I would bring a full sized tripod (unless it was one of the few, very light & compact CF models). I would probably look to a small table-top tripod or a bean bag.

Thanks all.
I have been looking at one of these http://joby.com/gorillapod/slrzoom/ as I dont realy want to take a full size tripod.

Another question, is it ok to take photos while in flight?

I was in the London and Paris last summer and IMO you should take your 10-22 (great for taking shots in downtown London and Paris). My least used lens was the 55-250, the most used, was my 18-55 IS. Besides, I truly regret not taking a 24-70 or a 24-105. Lastly, a 35 or 50mm 1.4/1.8 will work wonders also. Don't take the tripod, take a monopod instead. I wish you a great trip.

That SLR Zoom Gorillapod is a good idea, saves on weight etc.

You should be ok taking photos out of the window but I would avoid taking them during take off & landing maybe. (The info always asks for you to nit use electrical equipment during these moments...just in case!)

By FAR the lens I've used the most in Europe is my Tamron 17-50. Sure, there have been a few times when I've needed more reach (though not many), but having the 2.8 speed is a huge deal, especially when you want shots inside churches/museums/etc.

However, with your 10-22, taking indoor shots shouldn't be a problem...at 10mm you can probably hand-hold decently at 1/15s!
