I've had it just over a year and its been fine. Lately it says change bettery pack right after I put freshly charged batteries in, I've been using the batteries for a year. I've tried 4 different sets of them, then I even tried buying reg double a's at the store and they only last a few pictures until I get this error.
Any help? =\

I've heard this complaint before. Can you check the voltage on your batteries? Maybe the charger isn't working. Buying regular double A batteries will never work. They don't have enough energy to run digital cameras.

I've tried the rechargables in my other items around the house, they work fine.

There's nothing wrong with using AAs' (Alkalines) in an A70. They're all I use and it works just fine and gets good battery life, too. Probably over 100 shots. (Whether it's economic or convenient to do so depends on the particular circumstances, but that's a different question).

I don't know why your camera is suddenly getting such poor battery life, but if it happens with brand-name alkalines too, then it's the camera and not your rechargable batteries.

You have to have energy ratings of 2000 muh or so to run a digital camera. Those batteries cost more than the low rated alkalines that you buy in the grocery store.

That doesn't match my experience. I have had other brands of camera eat a pack of alkalines for lunch but not this one (A70). I use brand name alkalines and have had very good results, given that they are not high-capacity rechargables, which I realize would run (but not store!) for even longer. Alakalines in this camera serve my usage patterns very well.

Depends on what the current requirements are for the other devices. A radio or a flashlight, fgor instance, isn't very demanding whereas your camera is. So batteries that fall over in your camera may run a flashlight for hours.

dear all
i left all batteries and card out overnight and hey presto, it works again with new lithium backup.
figured the lithium battery was dead and so i got generic 'battery' message
and there is a short memory retention on the contol chip or something so immediate replacement does not over ride chips low battery message

Haha, I thought that was it but I'm always tight on money so I couldn't spend the $3.00 for the cr1220 without knowing for sure. After reading your post this mourning I took mine out and went to Radioshack for a new one. So far it's been working great for 30+ minutes. :) How's yours holding up?

I've had this problem.

Check your charger to see if it is set to recharge all 4 batteries at the same time and not just the two. If you have it set at 2 and then pick the ones that weren't recharged, they obviously won't work because of not being recharged.

If that doesn't work, bring your camera to where you bought it and/or a place that works with them.

Good luck! :)

Curious after all this time, did you ever find out what the problem was with your A70?

I now have the Change Battery Pack message with new batteries.

Have you tried changing the lithium backup battery?

That was the solution posted in this thread.

Thanks for posting the backup battery info!

I have an A60, and between the e18 error, the defective CCD imager...ugh! I was ready to toss it this time.

Thank goodness it was a simple $5 fix! lol

Thanks again :D

I think it's time for it to "kick the bucket"

I always use alkaline AA batteries in my A70. I get maybe 500 pics before I have to change batteries. Looks like warranty work is needed. Or maybe it's the coin battery.
