Hello,

This is my first post on this forum :)

I'm living in the Netherlands and the Canon Eos 10D will be available within a few weeks.
I'm in the process of making a choice to buy a digital SLR (my first). But I have a choice between the new 10D or a used D60 (the owner is a pro. photographer)

What would YOU do, and WHY ?

cheers, HoodedOne

Unless there is a HUGE price break, it would only make sense to go with the 10D. Purchasing a D60 now would only leave you wanting all that the 10D has to offer. See the (p)review on dpreview.com for a laundry list of reasons why folks here are drooling with anticipation at getting theirs. Best of luck and have fun whichever way you decide to go!

I don't know about Netherlands. But here a used D60 is only few hundred buck cheaper than a brand new 10D.
For only a few hundred dollars I would definitely go for a better camera that is brand new.

Just wondering, how much is a 10D in the netherlands?

I've had my 10D for a few days now, and it's a huge step forward! Go for the 10D. :)

I also say: it makes no sense to buy a D60 - NOW.

D60 was a lot more expensive than 10D now is (~ 50%)

I think 10D is better than D60 - especially for this "low" price.

"New" D60s (production was discontinued) now are sold for Euro 2260-2850,
10D has an official price of Euro 2199 and is announced before arriving shelves for ~ Euro 1900 or less.

I think street price will fall to Euro 1600 after some month.

Look: Sigma SD9 arrived some weeks/month ago - available now for ~ Euro 1650.

Hey, that's weird.

The prices I have seen are 2299 euro (official) but the stores will sell it around 2000 euro.
Lets hope the price will drop more in the next few months.

There is official price on german Canon web: 2199 Euro

Street prices ~ 1950.-

But I don't want till november to save 200 Euros, I'll do 5000 shots or more this summer :-)

Then february 2004 comes new 15D for Euro 1300 ;-) ... much better then 10D

I just checked the internet, and the lowest price I have seen (in the Netherlands) is 1875 euro.
So the 1900 euro streetprice, seems to be the right one.

Find a 10D, hold it, turn it on, shoot some pictures. Then choose......

I just switched from D30 to D60 (brand new/special price and firmware 1.0.4 of course) and am pretty happy with the decision.
No more problems like with earlier firmare versions.
I really can't agree those who say that D60 AF sucks.
At least mine is perfect and for my purposes fast enough.
Spot on every time even in dimm light.
Picture quality is perfect and every function like shutter release lag are appr. 50 % improved compared to D30.
Great camera, but of course if price is not significanlty cheaper than 10D go for 10D.
10D seems to have some flaws as it seems to be the case with nearly all new models before the fixes with new firmwares come out.
If I'd be in the situation of bying 10D I'd wait for the next firmware.
Just my 0.02.

thnx everybody

At this time I´m pretty sure that I go for the 10D. :)
I currently have a small digital camera (nikon coolpix 2500) for about 6 months, and I shot more then 1900 pics with it. I calculated that if I shoot about the same amount of pics with the 10D, I´m saving about 2000 euro on film and developing costs. So this argument really convinced me that it is the right thing to do.
But this also means I have to let go my Eos 33, which is a bit hard because I love that camera.

cheers, HoodedOne

HoodedOne,

Keep your EOS 33 in case you want to shoot some film... you won't get much for it if you sell it anyway, and it's a great camera. I know, I have one! :)
