Hello,
I just bought the Canon 10D and I can't open RAW(CRW) files from my flash mem card. I can open the Jpeg Files with no Problem.
I have PhotoShop 6.x and I know PhotoShop 7.0 has a new features plug-in that you are able to open RAW(CRW) or comes bundle with the software. But what about the 6.0 people? Is there a plug-in I can download? or am I stuck with the Canon Software until I upgrade?
Thanks,
David

David,
if you've installed the canon software, you open the raw images through the twain drivers. Go to file/import instead of file/open.

According to Adobe, the "Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw and JPEG 2000 plug-in bundle" (phew!) is only compatible with 7.01 :-(
Good for version 7 users, but not so good for you I'm afraid. Personally, I would generally stick to using Breezebrowser to convert my RAW files to TIF and go from there. Not quite as neat, but the results are good.
Just my tuppence worth .... ;-)

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Ok, that works but what if I already download the files onto my system/HD.
I can't even export the file from CRW to RAW in Canon Digital Camera File Program. Also my PhotoShop does not even reconize the file.
I don't know but it looks like I am going to have to upgrade to PhotoShop 7.0. Or just deal with the software I have for now.
Cheers,
David

Thank you for your reply, I think I am going to have to upgrade :-(
Now is not a good time since I just bought my complete system and have little cash.
Oh well what can you do, that's life in the Digital age. ;-)
Cheers,
David

You should have received the Canon software when you got the 10D. This has a converter in it (in the Mac world it's called RawImageConverter and it is nothing to do with Photoshop. It is a standalone program which produces TIFFs.) There should also be a plug-in from Canon for Photoshop that will allow the conversion from raw to open it into Photoshop.) These should all work with Photoshop 6 and up. My D30 and D60 both worked with Canon software or PS plug-in with PS 6.
True, the Adobe product (CameraRaw) requires PS 7.0.1 - AND if you want to use it with 10D raw files you need to hack it.
BUT you don't have to use this product. You should install the Canon software as directed and use it - it is slower than ACR but it is not something you need to purchase separately. It also should not make any difference whether the file is still on the card or has been downloaded to your HD
If you haven't yet upgraded to PS7 and do so now AND pay the $99 for ACR, you'll be pissed off in November, or so, when PS8 is rumored to arrive and it will have ACR for 10D built in.... Just FYI!
Review your options if the $ or £ are in short supply!

Thank for your reply and the info on PS8!! I can wait until then.
Yeah, I got some software with my 10D and I am able to convert the files in a tiff or jpeg format which is ok. The program name is called "Canon Digital Camera File Viewer Utility", but I did not get the plug-in for photoshop other than the Twain drivers. :( I guess I just got spoiled with PhotoShop.
But thanks on the info on PS8.

The Twain drivers can be used by PS to import RAW images. This is completely different from the plug-in which opens RAW images in PS7.01s browser mode. You can also use BreezeBrowser, which I think handles the 10D with the new 2.6 version just released today. Check it out.

Thanks for your reply,
What I was trying do this without hooking up my camera to my laptop and keeping the file in RAW Format. But thanks for you information on BreezeBrowser. I will check it out.

Can someone point me to the directions for modifying ACR to read 10D RAW files? (I'm sure I must have missed this information somewhere in these forums, but I'm not having any luck finding it.)
Thanks!
