Playing with my new nifty fifty lens when we were at the fireworks. I have a Rebel XT that I have never loved but am determined to learn to use the settings before I allow myself to buy a better camera! I am a wanna-be portrait photographer (kids and family stuff)! Anyone care to edit this for me and show me what potential this photo has????? Thanks in advance :)

In my opinion you're better off learning how to master the camera settings first before you work on your post production work.
