View Full Version : Critique and help please

My brother in law got married this past weekend. I mostly enjoy taking photos of nature but was fortunate to be able to assist a photographer with equipment and take some myself. Before you look at the photo, please be gentle. I am not a pro and I have very few post processing skills. I did download a trial version of lightroom. I would like to know how one might pp this photo. I did try the "old photo" filter in lightroom on the second photo. The first one, I haven't really figured out how to edit. Any thoughts, edits, help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, be gentle please.
Thanks for looking

I'm not digging #2 at all, but that's probably owing to my tastes. I think the original is fine. Maybe try a little recovery to bring back some of her dress.

If the original is the op, it's far superior to the lower (2nd?) The bottom is oversaturated, off-color and contrasty (might be the saturation issue. I think original color was fine. Just needs a better crop. A much shallower dof would have been a big help -- maybe you can blur.

Keep #1, sometimes doing nothing is all a photo needs

I agree, the first photo is fine the way it is.

I remember when I had stupid friends that would try and add vibrance (which saturates only moderate tones like skins tones) to pictures to make themselves look more tan on facebook. But it just made the picture look worst and for some reason it just rubbed me the wrong way. It looks like the second picture you just saturated the entire picture. I like the first one 1000X better. :)

The "old photo" look does nothing for me. The first one is nice. In addition to recovering some of the blown whites, I would warm it up just a little.

It looks like there was significant cloning to the side of the bride... might want to try to blend that a bit better...
can you post the original??
