Very nice 3D effect. Very smooth and soft feel to it, almost matte-like or pastel. And photomatix with no halos! A miracle!! ;) :)

thanks - i'm conservative with the settings, and try to 'bell curve' the luminance. it seems to help with the halos.

i can't wait for photomatix 4 to be released . . .

Nice processing and an interesting shot. I like it. Amazing how a tree of that size can find a way to stay alive growing out of a chunk of rock.

I know what a bell curve is, but I am not quite sure what you mean in reference to application in photomatix. If you have a moment, please explain. If not, keep up the great work!

thanks, Tiger.

@ CannedHeat- after merging to HDR and before you tonemap, a separate window pops up with the luminance values. i adjust the white and black points until the curve is as centered as it's going to get.

on the picture above, i used a circular polarizer so i really went right (with the slider) on the white value, and left the black value towards zero. i don't tweak many settings in photomatix, but that is one i do for every tonemap.

Oh MY! I don't think I've ever even read that window except for "Continue". DOH!<!!!!!>

Thanks!:)

I'm not getting that intermediate window. After choosing 3 files and merging to HDR, the only option I get is to click to go to tone mapping ? ? (Using v3.1.2)

ok, i'm home now - the intermediate window is the histogram ( i knew that . . . :o ) and before you hit 'process' go into 'tone settings' to find the sliders for 'black point' and white point'. as you move the sliders, you'll see the histogram move.

sorry to be unclear . . . here's one i just finished;

No problem, and a BIG thank you! You forced me to upgrade and miracle of miracles - what a difference an upgrade will make!

I see the window you're talking about. It's the histo that used to be docked before. But other options, especially the preview image, are much better in v3.2.9. Some of the controls also offer finer tuning. Thanks!

Looks pretty good and I'm generally not a fan of HDRs.

BTW, it's Olmsted, not Olmstead. ;)

Wow. Nice. Thank gawd somebody did a shot of this that doesn't look like the millions upon millions of others that all look the same (with 50% of them showing the golden setting sunlight on the dome). This is a unique look, one of which I have not seen before. Excellent job!

Now if we could just get somebody - anybody - to produce a different image of that beam of light in slot canyon that (1) does not look the same * (http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&biw=1600&bih=854&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=slot+canyon+sunbeam&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=), and (2) is not shot from the same angle, that would be a cause for celebration. If I see another one of those completely overdone shots, I think I'll gag ;)

(another good shot and process, burnzz).

thanks gentlemen - not all of my Yosemite shots turned out, and i think i have a bad card. i may have lost half of my RAW files, the jpg's are fine.

it was fun shooting everything in 3 exposures, on the off chance something popped out . . .
