I just got a 10D (a bit of an upgrade from my Rebel 2000) and my Sigma 500 Supers (I have two) don't seem to work well with it. The flash fires, but the camera overexposes. The Exposure information in camera doesn't change when the flash is attached, although the flash knows what zoom the lens is at.

Seems like it's one way communication.

Anyone have a work around for this problem? Aside from the obvious: sell my two Sigma 500s and get a single Canon 550ex.

I have spoken to a Sigma technician a few seconds before, but they can't say anything to this Problem, in Germany this Type isn't released yet, may be it will come in 2 or 3 weeks.
Wait and see.

Ouuuuch, that's sounds not good.

I've to decide to buy Metz/Sigma/Canon flash for my 10D (I don't have yet).

Sigma 500 Super DG is good & cheap (1/3 less then Canon), but I don't like a one-way-flash.

Two-way seems to be better :-|

My understanding that that G version is compatible with some of the other cameras. But I do not have that version.

Sigma 500 Super is the cheaper, old version.
Sigma 500 Super DG (=Digital) ist the more expensive new version.

There may be a difference - I do not think, Sigma makes "bad" flashes

Yes, thanks. And it's the cheaper older one is the one I have.

My understanding from some of the other forums on the net is that the G version works with the Powershots and has been used on the D30 and D60.

I was hoping someone might have some experience with the cheaper older one as you say.

500 Super - suited for AF-SLR cams, no digitals mentioned

500 Super DG - suited for analog & digital

Now I understand ....... 130 Euros = $ 150 saved [grin]

Thanx for your question :-))))

One question more ...

I found backside-views for Canon 550EX & Metz54Z3, but nothing for Sigma 500 Super DG.

Who nows a nice picture to look at Sigma-LCD & Sigma-buttons?

Or a link to a downloadable manual?
For all three?

I use Sigma flash EF500S since 911 and it works quite okay. Are you shooting close objects? It happens when I am using ETTL shooting up-close.

BTW, I have tried my EF500S on a 10D but it does not work! Strange...

That's what I have - a 10D I guess I either need the DG version, or I just need to get the "compatible with all EOS" Canon $550EX :(

Found complete manual for Metz54MZ3 in english/german (Metz homepage)

NO manual for Sigma 500 Super DG :-(

Manual for CANON 550EX in Polish (scanned) and Chinese-jpg (original :-( )

It makes not lucky learning Polish or Chinese :-(

I think, buying Metz (usable with SCAs for ALL cams) is a good idea - if SIGMA/CANON doesn't want to give an online manual!

What sense makes internet, if I have to go to a dealer for looking into a simple manual ? ? ? ?

I'm reading

"Where is a description for CANON XXX, where is a manual for CANON YYY ... for download?"

It's really a SHAME!

Other manufacturers offer complete original manuals at their websites - WHY NOT CANON ? ? ?

First I want to study manuals - THEN BUY!

Not buy ... then I think: ouuuuh, I bought wrong!

I don't need internet for looking at naked girls ... I want to look into good manuals :-)
