Queensland Raceway this past weekend held the Shannons Historic Racing & Classic Car Festival. Was a great weekend with a record entry list comprising more than 300 vehicles. Porsche was the featured manufacturer and as a result there were some magnificent examples of some of the finest racing Porsches in Australia.

The first photo is the 1968 Porsche 911 T/R (one of only 4 built). This lightweight Porsche was ordered by then Australian Porsche distibutor Alan Hamilton and competed in the one race 1968 Australian Touring Car Championship and finished and amazing 3rd against powerful Mustang and Camaro muscle cars. Car had been in the USA, but is now owned by a private Australian collector and is fully restored in 1968 specs.

This Porsche is a 1979 935 twin-turbo which produces 800 bhp and will top 227 mph! Built by the Porsche factory (0022) and started racing in 1980 and has been driven by Bob Wolleck. Was imported into Australia in 1982 and won that years Australian GT Championship in the hands of World Formula 1 Champion Alan Jones. Also won the 1983 Championship driven by current owner Rusty French.

Finally a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The 2002 Le Mans GT class winner run by The Racers Group. Now competing in Australian racing series driven by current owner Phil Holzberger.

Doh ... I suspected something like this, but I've never heard of a Milano GT2. Also couldn't find much with Google ... just the name and a picture of that car.

Best regards,
Andy

super sweet

I was never much of a Porsche fan until I (first) went to Le Mans in 1997. That changed the way I thought about them.

Incidentally Porsche are the only manufacturer to have gone racing at top level with all cars in the range, apparently.

Just love the 935, but #78 with it's tail hung out brings a smile.
