US coast-to-coast road trip: Great places to see / make pictures of

Imagine you go on a road trip coast to coast (this month). New York to San Fransisco. Where would you stop to do sightseeing and make pictures?

I think it would depend entirely on what one's interests are. Myself, I'd probably be looking for National Parks, air museums and train museums...
