I use feeders and snags for my humming birds as I can get them into positions I might not be able to do otherwise. Image taken with bigma and 36mm ext tubes this image I was trying to find the best way to frame this bird near full sized in the frame here. Let me know what you think and if this composition works. Image was taken two months ago. This is the full frame image no cropping.

Great pic. Very crisp and sharp. The composition works for me too. It's nicely framed. The only minor thing is that I wish the small branch on the bottom were not there. Unfortunately, if it were cropped out, the bottom part of the pic would be too tight. Anyway, I think you did a great job on what's available!

Super job!The only minor thing is that I wish the small branch on the bottom were not there. Unfortunately, if it were cropped out, the bottom part of the pic would be too tight. One could possibly remove it with the healing tool so as not to shorten the canvas.

The composition and the techs are perfect. Just look at the details in the breast feathers! That small branch can easily be cloned out...

Nice shot of a beautiful bird. The Bigma is capable of superb performance in the right hands. Shame it's not often enough in the right hands, which is why it often gets criticised ;)
So what exactly do the tubes do in a picture like this?

Nice shot of the hummer! What's the distance between the lens and the bird?

Great shot but I feel it's framed just a little too tight on the right hand side.

Nicely composed shot of a lovely bird.
So what exactly do the tubes do in a picture like this? They let him get well within the 10ft minimum focus distance of the bigma. Even at 500mm you're not going to fill the frame with a hummingbird at 10ft.

Very nice, I like the white reflection in the bird's eye. Gives it a real life like quality. This belongs in a text book.

Thank you all for your input here and suggestions.
Leorooster: Thanks and Yes I think the shot would be better without the branch in it but I refuse to clone out or add anything to an image but I could have removed it easily.
Condyk: Thanks and yes the lens is great, it's very sharp even at 500mm but it's not a prime, although it is within my budget :) I think there are some out there that might not be good copies but I lucked out and got a good one, but then even L series lenses are not all created equal and I would put this lens up against any zoom, and even some primes. Tubes will allow me to get closer to the subject here and make the subject larger at the same time, no glass in the tubes so light loss is minimal but you cannot auto focus with them on.
cfcRebel: Distance to the bird, I am guessing about 8-10 foot here very near or just under the MFD for the lens but the tubes also add focal lenght which will allow the subject to appear larger even at the same distance. I had on the tubes hoping to get some head shots of these little birds.
Andy: I looked at that and I have many shots some less tight on the right side but I felt there was just enough here to make this shot work leaving more room for this hummer to look out of the frame as I wouldn't want the birds bill tight in the frame. I do have some with more room around them.
Foxbat: Oh sure Foxbat you explained that before I got to, But since I wrote it already I will leave it.
Again thanks all of you for taking the time to look and offering tips and opinions :)

Nicely done! Beautiful detail.
one nip: Give him a bit of room to the right. That's the first thing thatgrabeed my eye.
