One of my models ride horses, so today we decided to make some action shots.

She's gorgeous! Great job ... fill flash? Did it bother the horse?

I used fill in flash because the weather was terrible.
It did not bother the horse.

Very nice images. It's nice to be in a position to have full control over the lighting when shooting a sporting image and you've executed the fill-flash to a very high standard - excellent work indeed!

Nice use of fill flash on these Frank. I'm curious though... It looks like you've got plenty of DOF with the wide lenses, what focus technique did you use? With horses, I usually end up having to prefocus around the jumps since other jumps on the course make Servo go wacky and other times I just don't want to take the chance of missing a focus lock before the horse gets over the jump in Oneshot mode.

Correct I prefocused on the jump and used settings between f8.00-f10.00
On servo you will run into problems because you normaly want the jockey in focus.

Interesting angles, I like the bay. The style (rider and horse) is so much different than the US!

Beautiful, crisp shots.

Question: When you say you prefocused on the jump, on what part of the jump? The first bar? The jockey's head is at least six feet over any static object you could have used to focus. Please explain further for the dummy in me. Thanks

I focused on the second bar and than the middle part, with f8.0 this seemed to work.

great shots, love how you captured the intensity on the model, and the horse.
