Glad I found you guys, after a short hunt around the net :). My S110 has worked fine for years - a work horse, until my five year old got her mitts on it. I didn't quite see what she did, but I think she opened the CF card holder while the camera was on  - now all of a sudden when I switch on I have a blank / black LCD and its taking blank / black pictures - all the menu etc still works fine on the LCD so I don't think thats broken. And everything else appears to be functioning fine - turns on / off fine and downloads the blank pictures to my PC OK. I've tried reformatting the card which made no difference. Should I buy a new CF card ?? or a new camera ??. If it requires a trip to Canon for repair, should I ?? or should I write it off and buy a nice new one - whaddya think ??? I could bill my 5 year old for it !! She's got more money than I have  who needs a college education anyway :)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Why not hook your CF to a card reader and check whether you can put some photos from your hard-drive onto your card? Maybe your card works and your camera card reader has shorted?

Did she maybe remove and reinsert the CF card in the process? Sounds like a bent/broken pin in the CF reader slot.

Not too sure how the camera works, but from the pictures of it I have seen it's not got a TTL viewfinder so hate to be a stickler for the obvious but has she not left anything blocking the lense?

I don't have a card reader to check that (I don't think) - I have one on my printer.

Nah - it wasn't removed - she didn't have it that long.
