Hi,

I successfully installed exhibit engine and the upgrade, but have hit a roadblock. I can display the sample exhibit "D30," but have found that my hosting company has safe mode on.

I need some words to throw at my webhosting company (Webmasters.com) about turning off safe mode. I requested this along with GD version upgrade and was given this response:

"1. Please turn PHP's safe mode off it is currently on.
2. Do you have ImageMagick installed?
3. Would it be possible to install GD version 2.x.x (currently
1.x.x appears to be installed)"

"We cannot turn off Safe Mode...it would threaten the security of the server. As for your two software questions, there are no plans to add either of those to our servers"

Surely it isn't this cut and dry. What is required to make it safe? Any words would help. I really don't feel like bailing to a new hosting company as the other features are pretty good.

Thanks,
Carl

Note: I had enquired about GD and ImageMagick as they are used in Photopost which I was originally considering…

EE 1.3RC has been tested to work with either safe mode on or off. In most servers safe mode is on for good security reasons. On this server safe mode is on, too.

Pekka,

Thanks for the prompt response...then the problem must be with me...
I'll read up some more and see what I can do. I tried to upload files and start a new exhibit, but got stymied. I figured it was my safe-mode and started trying to resolve that.

I'll hit it again and come back if I have trouble.

Regards,
Carl

Pekka,

I'm diggin' this program!

Thanks for setting me straight! I finally got my first exhibit up and am working on my second.

Everything went fine the second time except all photos were added with Display Rule set to "Hidden from the Public". (Strange, because that didn't happen with the first one) I'm having to go change them one at a time...

I can't seem to find the default setting so that won't happen next time.

I did figure out how to change them all at once, but I haven't figured out where I went wrong yet...

I'm looking through the archives...

Regards,
Carl

You're using 1.3RC, right? there is a command in photo list page: "MAKE ALL PHOTOS VISIBLE IN PUBLIC".

Pekka,

So right you are! There's so much functionality I find myself looking right past some of the controls that are right under my nose.

Thanks again! I'll be sending some PayPal soon.

Carl
