Just wondering whats the best or the most popular lens used for engagement shoots. 16-35? 24-70?

Well, with engagement shots, you can choose and pose your subjects. (Unlike most of a wedding, lol). Primes will give you more creative control than zooms.

Depends on the venue. In a large room go with the 85L
If in close quarters go with the 24-70. 16-35 is going to be wide for some of the the close up shots like the customary ring photo. Personally I would never leave unless packing everything I would need for any scenario that may arise. Things can a do change and spur of the moment things may present themselves. It would suck to be standing there with the wrong lens and not be able to do a quick swap if needed.

Full frame or crop? I would use the 35 f1.4 L and 70-200 f2.8 IS on my 5D II.

I shot my most recent engagement using the Sigma 50 about 75% of the time.....72% to be exact. Overall, it's closer to 40%, but it's my most used lens by far.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm surprised however that most of you guys prefer using primes. I thought the versatility of zooms are much more useful for this type of shoots.

Funny you should mention that.....I pretty much use the 28/1.8 + 50/1.4 + 85/1.8 combo for everything.
For the next few sessions, I'm going to force myself to use the 70-200 more than I normally do. I rarely shoot with anything longer than the 85/1.8, but there are times where I need a little more reach. I occassionally use the 200/2.8, but find it to be too long at times. There's definitely a 135L in my future. I doubt I'd shoot anything longer unless I was stuck in the back of a church during a ceremony.

Out of just those two I'd use the 24-70.

That's why many of use have two (or more) bodies :)

Full-frame? 16-35 is VERY wide. You might get some creative shots, but I'd think the 24-70L would be a much better match. I prefer even longer stuff. I've had good results using my 70-200, but my 85 works well too.
