I don't know how things are in California but I have not heard of any issues like that anywhere, nor in the National Parks. You should be ok. Afterall, these are your taxes at work, right :D ?

From the FAQ at their website: (emphasis added)

We encourage guests to take photos at both the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. As a not-for-profit organization, commercial use of photos taken at our facilities is strictly prohibited. Entering photo contests does not infringe on our copyright policies as long as photos taken on our grounds are not published. Lens size and other equipment is up to you; there are no restrictions other than please be courteous to other guests who may wish to get a close look as well!

No problem, glad I could help. The state parks regulations wouldn't apply anyway, as the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are owned/operated by the Zoological Society of San Diego, not the state.

WAP is one of my favorite places to take pictures. You will have no problems, and will see a lot of cameras there. :)

If it is a private park they can impose their own rules. However, of it is a State park, then it is open for non-commercial photography without a permit.

They do not want someone coming in there with models, a make up artist, lighting assistants and others, fracking everything up for the people that are trying to get away from that kinda crap so in that kinda of instance, permits are needed.

However, if you want to experience the State park and use your camera by yourself there should be no problem. In fact many State parks sponsor photo contests so they encourage visitors to shoot images in their park.
