Is this a wise thing, I really like the slightly more compact design of the A95 and hope it will produce pics better than my fantastic G2. Am I wise to go that way, I'm not looking for bulky dslr cam.

hmmmm maybe the sd500 is a better choice than the A95?

Its more compact, but it won't take better photos.
It has a smaller sensor, lower quality lens, and is slower to focus and has longer shutter lag.
The only thing it does that the G2 dosn't is 5mp and a flip out LCD.
Unless size is a major issue its not really an upgrade, and depending on what level of photohgraphy you are into might be a step backwards.

Ahhh, Thank you for that, I am novice and do not want to go backwards per say in quality, maybe I will be happier with the sd500 or the A95 replacement A530? I think I will look for a cam that has second gen processor because that is my biggest reason for replacing the G2, looking for faster AF speeds and slightly more compact cam than the G series (size is less important ).

I faced a similar choice and after much thought sold my trusty G1 and bought an A95. I have no regrets.
My reason was mainly bulk. I had got fed up with carrying my G1. With lens adapter permanently fitted, and several filters in cases, I needed to carry it in a fanny pack. I'd had SLRs for years and they were even worse with all the lenses to lug around.
If you don't have a camera with you almost all the time you miss some great shots, so I wanted one that would fit in a small belt. I nearly got the S2 IS - a wonderful camera but a bit too bulky and heavy for my needs.
Why the A95? My wife has an A75 that I borrowed for a week and I realized it had many technical advances over my G1. But it only had 3 mp and didn't have the swivelling LCD that I loved.
As for taking a good pictures, it's not the camera, it's the photographer that matters. Of course if you're into specialized subjects, or often print pix up above 8x10 you'll need something different, but for all round use an A95 should do just fine.

Well I got a chance to see them all under one roof today, I love the feel, size and handle of the A95, A520 but do not like the fact they are digic I processor leaving me to believe that it will have simular AF speed as my current G2. I had heard fantastic things about the SD500 with Digic II 7.1 mp processor but not a big fan of the feel and handle of the cam (little smaller than expected ) but have not ruled it out if it is as capable as stated, it does have size on its side for convenience. The S2 IS i think its called was a nice cam, again moving to the larger side like a G6 but worth doing some homework on (would prefer smaller cam) and then there is the G6 which I think is only a digic I processor which puts me back to slow AF simular to G2 I'm assuming (ups shouldn't assume) Hense I left the store today even more confused than when I went in Shessshhh. I think I have convinced myself that the digic II processor is my main concern over all other factors of these cams because of my frustration with the slow AF of my G2. I just want a great fast AF compact cam that I can use for family, friends and general shots we want to capture of our lives. I am hesitating on the small SD500 Digic II cam only because my G2 vlense is so large in diamater and all these smaller cams have such tiny lenses in comparison, wondering if my shots are going to suffer even though my G2 is only 4 mp, also if the A95 replacement A530? has a digic II processor I'd say I found my choice but that has not being mentioned as of yet.

Well I,v got a few pics for you to see.
I really must admit I lov this cam, it is easy to use and feels very good in my hands. The image stablization is fantastic as the picture with the bird house is 12x zoom. That brings me to the 12x zoom, what do I need to say about that but it is beautifull to have. The AF of this cam is stunning, it is so fast you almost can push straight down on the shutter button man, I cannot say enough about this cam, it is exactly what I wanted.
follow this link for pictures.
All pictures were taken at medium quality setting in cam 1600 x 1200 pix - max quality is 2560 x 1920 pix.
