I was surprised that the shot actually came out. This shot was taken with the Digital Rebel, Kit Lens 55mm attached with a closeup filter.
Hand Held, 1/100Sec, F16, ISO200, 55mm Kit Lens

The photo was cropped a bit to isolate the fly. Can still see the details.

That's one great fly, well done. That kit lense is way better than people give it credit for. Try carrying a 100mm macro around your neck for 4 hours. You will soon appreciate the lightness of that cheap plastic lense. I was thinking of selling mine....but why?

Nasty.. But well captured. Should be used for an ad for something.

Excellent shot ,very well done, very sharp.
Ron, If you ever decide to sell that lens, let me know, I'd be glad to carry it around.

thanks.. I probably would keep my kit lens because of the wide angle.

Personally I never tried a real macro lens before but by your description, it sounds heavy. Guess we are in an occupation that keeps message theorpist in business... :)

thanks.. putting this in an Ad had come across my mind but I am not sure what is the requirements. More importantly is who in the right mind would want to put a big fly on the cover? My first reaction is to roll up that news paper and hit that fly.
