Hi, I just purchased a G2 and did not attach the strap properly thus the camera came off and hit the cement. It works fine, just a little scuff on the top left corner. Should I worry about this? Would it be a good idea to take it to a Canon dealership to have them check it out? I feel so stupid doing this I'm usually very careful. Any advice! Thanks,
MC

Hi Michelle,

I dropped my mobile phone a lot of times and I every time I'm suprised that it still works.

A mobile phone is of course not a digital camera but actually I think the camera will work fine, but it's up to you to find out if its really working 100%!

If I where you I would check different kind of things like zooming, does the LCD work correct, are the pictures allright, etc.

And if you don't trust it you can always bring it to a Canon dealer. But I am afraid that they will keep it a while.

Succes!

Greets,

Jan

This is why I have a Lensmate Tube and UV filter on mine. If your lens had been extended and it hit the wrong way you would have broke it off.
Go and look at http://www.lensmateonline.com/.

I have ordered a Lensmate - it's in the mail. My lens was not touched - only a scuff in the top left corner of the camera. Everything seems to work just fine. No weird noises from the lens moving in and out. So if all is working fine now, then hopefully nothing has been knocked loose! But definitely the lensmate will be an added protection I will want.

turn on your camera and shake it , if it turn off itself or the screen flash that mean your camera is not correct

I shook my camera, it stayed on and the screen did not flash. Hoping that means it's OK

Michelle:

I did EXACTLY the same thing. Indeed, the camera dropped onto the garage floor before I even took my first picture!!! Everything worked fine for me as well. Whew!!!

Well, I feel a lot better. I only hope I have not shortened the life of my camera. I have only had it for 4 days now and I love it. I want to learn everything about it. I have learnt to keep it in its padded case at all times! Thanks, everyone for your feedback. It's nice to know that I can ask questions and get the answers I need. See you again.

Hi Michelle

I haven't dropped my G2 yet (thankfully!) But what you should do is to get a needle and thread and just sew the straps down on each side after you have adjusted it to the right length. It can just be a couple of stitches, but I can guarantee that the strap will never ever slip on you again. If you need to get it undone again just unpick the stitching.. easy. Some people also dispense with the canon strap altogether and get an after market wrist strap.

I was just going to say that! I want to get a wrist strap. The shoulder strap can stay on the camera case. My camera will always stay in the case from now on. I bought one but have to take it back because I bought a Lensmate adaptor and the camera won't fit in the case with it on. Thanks for the advice though.
