Any advice?
I have a Canon G6 with a lens adapter and a 420ex speedlite. Now I probably wouldn't use the 420ex when I had it on the mini.
Here is what I have seen so far online.

The canon 8 handles more weight but don't think it would fit in my Lowepro EX 140 bag, actually not sure either would. Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.
TIA

find out how much weight u need the tripod to support. then buy the one that supports it.
Because buying a mini tripod that fits into your lowepro EX 140 bag but wont support your camera is completely useless right? its defeats the purpose lol
if it doesnt fit, these look tiny, get a bigger bag or something lol

When looking at the miniature table-top tripods, weight capacity alone will not be enough to determine whether or not one is appropriate. You have to look at where your camera's tripod socket is relative to the center of gravity of the camera/lens combination. Then look at how wide the stance of the legs is. Many times there is not enough distance between the legs of the mini-tripods to support cameras. Our Canon G-3 has a tripod socket way off center and that made many tabletop tripods nearly useless with it. I won't even consider a tabletop tripod with my 20D and heavy L lenses.
Best bet - go to a camera store and TRY what they have. You may not be able to calculate what will work or not. Trying the real thing is the answer.
If I need a tabletop support for my 20D, I will make one out of plywood, stick-on rubber feet, and a bolt. The bolt will be 3/8-16 threads and will stick up through the plywood. I would then thread one of my Bogen ballheads, probably my 484RC2, onto the bolt.

Good advice from Bosman. I didn't think about where the tripod mount would be on your camera.
