View Full Version : DUST IN POWERSHOT PRO 1

Hi all. I l was cleaning my Pro 1 today, and I noticed dust on the inside of my lens. Is there any way to get it out of there myself, or do I need to send it in to Canon? Is it even possible to get it out of there at all?
Thanks so much,

Do you see visual artifacts when you open the pictures on your computer at 100% zoom? If not, who cares ;).
You're probably like me. I know theres a big chunk of dust on my digital SLR mirror, but i know it doesn't affect the picture quality. I'm just so tempted to blow it out of there, but that would probably make it end up on the sensor... so i deal with it... and it bothers me every time i look through the viewfinder.

Exactly. If it were a D-SLR, I could get the dust out. but being that the pro-1 is a fixed lens camera, i can't see a way to get the dust out of there. No i don't see any visual artifacts but yes you are right, it does bother me.

Try doing a search on this topic, as I know it has been discussed before on here and other forums. In a nutshell some of the early Pro1's had a problem, in which dust got inside the lens. The proper fix is to have Canon take the lens apart clean it and then put a special tape on the lens before reassembly. I have never had this problem with my Pro1.

I have had my Pro1 for about 3 months, and posted a similar question on another forum (I had 1 spec on the lens that irritated me).
Dead simple - 3 screws at the end of the lens barrel (little jewellers philips screws) unscrew these to take the lens off and give it a quick clean.
Please note this info is from another forum (haven't done it myself yet as my dust particle is almost invisible and I am waiting for more to arrive) so therefore I can not say whether its ok or not - just a suggestion.
