I just sold mine because of an upgrade to the 17-85. It's a nice lens for the money, I found 24mm a little long at the wide end, but I never had any complaints about image quality.

Hi Juz, I had this lens until recently when I replaced it with the 17-85mm.

I really liked the 24-85. Nice size and weight, good build, very fast and quiet focus and sharp images (except wide open where it was a little soft). I replaced it with the 17-85 as I wanted a little bit more on the wide end and I found the 17-85 to be sharper plus it has the amazing 2nd generation IS. I have sold the 24-85 to my best friend who recently got a 350D and he is over the moon with it.

What sort of money should I be looking to pay for one S/H?

I sold mine (absolutely mint condition plus hood) to my mate for £120.

This was my first lens on my 20D. Stopped down to about F8 and F11 pictures are sharp and very acceptable. Light weight, fast USM. Price point for a used is in the $ 210 - $ 225 range. It's about $ 310 out of New york new.
After about 3 months I needed something with a longer range. I looked at many 70-200's to compiment this lens but ended up going with a Tokina 24-200 F3/5-4.5 as one "walk around lens".
Still very happy with this choice. It has great range and beats the Canon 24-85 for sharpness across the board. I sold my "like new" Canon 24-85 for $ 210. I picked up a "like new" Tokina with UV filter and Promaster folding hood for $ 250. I have seen others go for $ 200 to $225 as well. Check out the Tokina before you make your final decision.

Mine went on eBay for a slightly disappointing £113 complete with hood. I've seen them go as high as £140 on eBay, so mine was certainly a bargain! :-)
